The easily fashionably funky device of the year despite its launch in January - the iPhone is already headed for its first ever major legal battle. While Apple contends that there are several patents that it has used in the iPhone which belong to it (which are sure to be challenged) , this fight is over the very name of the device - The iPhone. Its not as if the hype and hoopla over the iPhone has died down ; nor is it expected to until Apple finally lets consumers lay their grubby paws on its latest device.
But Cisco decided to not wait so long. The 'iPhone' trademark of which belongs to Cisco since 7 years now (yep , you read it right, they got it way back in 2000 when they acquired Infogear - who used to sell iPhones). Apparently, Cisco even entered into negotiations with Apple to allow them use of the iPhone trademark but were brushed aside by Apple, leaving Cisco no option but to approach the courts. With its lawsuit, Cisco is seeking injunctive relief to prevent Apple from copying Cisco’s iPhone trademark.
