Kwispelbier which literally translated means 'wagging tail' in Dutch is the beer for dogs. It was created after Gerrie Berendsen wanted her dogs to share light refreshments with her after a day's hunting. She felt that since they had played their part to perfection during the hunt and worked equally hard, they too served to relax with a drink. Since beer is not exactly good for the dog's digestive system, Miss Berendsen commissioned the small local Schelde brewery to make and bottle the beer.

While it costs four times the cost of a normal beer, the special brew of beef extract and malt is lapped up greedily by the dogs which clearly love it. The beer is increasing sales rapidly for the fashionably elite who will now maintain two bars; one for themselves and one for their mutts.
