Apple iPhone in the land down under - Australia

Posted by Funkyguy on February 24, 2007 11:30 PM

australia.jpg Sitting in this pretty suburb of Melbourne, the day after Valentines had me looking over my now battered Sony Ericsson P910i. It was the Apple of my eye at a time, of course that was till all the hype began over the Apple iPhone. The much publicised handset though managed to win my heart despite my usual style of going in only for the exclusive stuff. The iPhone is certainly not going to be anything even close to exclusive with every second person definitely awaiting the release of this baby.

So I do a little search of Australian release of iPhone and it so happens that only Telstra with its EDGE compatibile network will be offering this handset. While that is not much of a concern, I am sure Telstra has a reliable network ; the horror of it all began when I realised that Steve Jobs in all his wisdom has included Australia in the Asia Pacific region, contrary to the usual European bundling. This means that while the United States gets the iPhone in June and Europe within a few months ; we guys in the land down under will have to wait till 2008.

Anyone want to try their luck on Ebay? I reckon the bidding is going to become pretty intense once the handset releases in the United States. Maybe I could just wait for the Google Switch, then again it may just be a rumour an in either case I am not sure my tortured P910i can withstand the abuse more than a year.
