With awareness to protect the environment at an all time high, many of the celebrities will arrive to the Oscar awards in cars that will be extremely protective of the nature. Options that are being tried out include the Phoenix Roadster SUV (completely electric), the Toyota Prius hybrid (of course), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles and the electric Zap car - Xebra. Since the Oscars are watched by millions who take their styling cues from this show, it is also hoped that putting the cars right out would be on way of making them more popular with the people despite the extremely hefty price tags (the primary reason why people who want to cant buy them).

In all, there are expected to be 30 alternative energy or "green" vehicles on the scene. Global Green which is sponsoring the initiative has managed to convince several celebrities not to arrive at the awards in their usual stretch limos. Of course, this necessitates reading of the previous 'Are Hybrids threats' article. The Car connection chips in to tell us that 'The popularity of An Inconvenient Truth, as well as a sustained swell of interest around alternative fuels that extends from left-wing and controversial film-maker Michael Moore to Republican White House has made this year's Oscars "The Year of the Car."'
