German cars are flawless; thats what was always drilled into me. Its as much a truth of life as saying that American cars are gas guzzlers. There just aint any two ways about it. So just what happened to that? Unlike Toyota which is rapidly moving its way upwards in America to becoming #1, Volkswagen happens to be the at the top in the list of car manufacturers for Europe. Coming from a company of such calibre then, such an oversight was definitely not expected. Almost 800,000 cars amongst which shall include 1999-2005 Jetta sedans, 2001-2005 Jetta wagons, 1998-2007 New Beetle, 2003-2007 New Beetle Convertibles, 1999-2006 Golfs and GTIs and the 2004 R3 - all in America.
The reason given for the recall were faulty brake lights. The malfunctioning brake lights and brake light switches could fail to come on or remain stuck on.The National highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the recall but did not offer any details about accidents which may have prompted the recall. While the company will bear the costs of the repair entirely, customers would be called only after April once the dealers were prepared with the replacement parts to handle all the cars.
