Now here is something that fits into the genre of 'why didnt some one think of this before'; a remote control for kids, which lets them get the basic understanding of the device without getting bored, since rather than just being a toy, this remote actually works. SmartHome has created the Weemote 3 (never heard about the 1 and 2, but seems they kept improving with every iteration). The latest in the series lets the kid surf from between 10 channels (which of course you can choose). The best part about this teach-mote is the price - only $24.99 USD.
The colorful device has nicely shaped buttons and a kid proof cover which can be popped by the parent any time to set / reset the channels. The Wee-mote promises to work with a host of TV's, VCR's , set top boxes and even TiVo. Even switching on the T.V. with this remote will ensure that only the first pre-programmed channel is tuned into; so its completely safe to be given to kids. Also ensure that you are the master of the house - the remote belongs to you and only you...though the Wee-mote could give it a run for its money. There's nothing that wont stop the kiddie from flicking over to his channel just before the final goal in the series or something, so better think about it.
