Parents get Tax break for sending kids for Sports - Australia battles child obesity

obese_kids.jpgAnd thats what it has come to in this fashionably funky crazy world of ours. The Australian government is sincerely considering giving out tax breaks to parents in a way of encouraging them to send their wards for playing sports. The radical plan is being described as extreme way of combating child hood obesity which is said to have far reaching effects into the childrens future since studies indicate that nearly 20% of children are obese and are at risk to become obese adults.

The proposal has been lodged with the Federal treasurer Mr. Costello and has been put together by sporting body VicSport. The measure will let parents make uniforms, sports equipment and transportation costs as tax deductible. It is expected that the government shall loose about $113 million annually in terms of lost tax.

Considering that this is being done for health reasons and not just some fashionable way to be anorexically thin, we whole heartedly support the measure.
