LG and the Quidam TV

quidam.jpgIt probably should read as LG introduces the Quidam TV but this one sounded better. Quidam which is the title of a show by a Canadian performance group Cirque du Soleil is renowned for its creativity and artistry. LG chose the name to represent the television's blend of technology and art. The T.V. boasts of an artistic futuristic design and in terms of technology it is a HDTV with automatic settings for adjusting picture brightness accourding to surroundings amongst others.

Samsung SGH i400; how the Millimetres Matter

i400.jpgIf you remembered to read about the Samsung SGH i400 yesterday then you surely would appreciate more details about this petite beauty. Samsung has been going gung ho over the sleek slimness of all their new handsets and in this microscopic pie fight, they illustrate why the 'Millimetres Matter'. The film is tastefully done and should come as a sordid reminder to those of us who have carried around brick handsets in the yester years of cell phone technology

Skype turns adorable , almost.

blurb_skype.jpgI love Skype, and that is something that I shall harp on for the rest of the month. Or so I thought. Well my initial euphoria was because they have done something adorable for this years mothers day - which falls on May 13 - all calls made from Skype users in America and Canada to call any number in the world whether landline or cellphone, completely free of cost. They are calling this the Gift of Gab. And before I forget, Intel has also tied up with Skype to make this come possible.

Apple TV readies for battle with the Vudu

But before we declare the results , Gizmodo has come up with some posh exclusive according to which the service which is similar to Apple TV will launch with a big bang later this summer. thousands of movies will release alongside and the technology is such that it connects directly to the television and does not require a PC / cable box or anything of the sort. Going by the sort of folks who are behind the Vudu, this baby is gonna have the balls to go in head to head with the Apple TV.

'Terminator' Arnold takes Bush to court over washing machines

terminator.jpgAnd I aint just makin it up. The State of California is suing the Federal Department of Energy over its reported 'failure' to authorise what the State of California claims will help save 303 billion litres of water a year by 2019. California which has always been at the fore front of environmental conservation has proposed a new standard which required washing machines sold after 2007 to use no more than 8.5 gallons of water per cubic foot of washing machine capacity. And by 2010, this figure would have to be reduced by a further 30%.

Table Tennis in the pool

Its called playing table tennis in the pool, in the literal manner. Considering that the water would make movement difficult, the table has been modified to measure 54 inches by 27 inches.

The Tabby universal remote control

remote1.jpgSome gadgets just beg to be produced, and the universal remote control with tabs to remind which remote to use for which device seems like a very simple but excellent idea. It should be all the same while programming it with the devices, but once done, its motive which is to appeal to a broad age group and easy to use for non-nerds certainly fits the bill.

Cool Hand Hooks

handhooks.jpgThis one falls into the 'Self Shelf' variety, which I liked so much that I have promised to get myself one for my birthday, which is right around the corner in any case. Coming back to the hand hooks, these are an excellent fashionable concept. The designer, Harry Allen took casts of his own hand to make these. The pictures say it all, and the designs can be used for a variety of ways. I will let the pictures do the talking for now.

Audio Blingin: 24K Gold iPod

24k_gold_ipod.jpg Unlike the ingot USB hub which was obviously fake, The Gold iPod is made from real 24K gold , which has been hardened. Obviously since gold, as we all know from out basic science lessons is a soft metal and would really not withstand the daily wear n tear that most iPods have to go through. The black or white front remains the same, its the back which gets replaced with gold. The 80 gig video iPod with the Gold back would set you back by about $598.

Iran plans to filter immoral SMS and MMS

mullah_hoops.jpgYeah right, and I would like to count the hair on my golden retrievers tail. The telecommunications ministry in a grandiose announcement has decreed that it shall filter out all immoral audio and video messages as well from cell phones. Of course the ministry has no idea of how exactly they would do that, but they have decreed nevertheless. Should be fun to see a couple of Mullah's dancing the hoops with several dozen cell phones and trying to weed out the naughty messages.

sandisk_c200pr.jpg For Mothers Day, I dont really believe that. Moms are happy to see their children just remember the day and give them a call if they are lucky. Getting a digital music player which would then have me recording her favorite songs after first downloading them sounds like a bit too much. Japanese covert neck-tie for public transport

chika1.jpg One of the dis-advantages of having an excellent public transport system here in Melbourne is that we often have to run around the platforms trying to think up which line to take for a particular station. If you are living in Japan though and have a similar problem (then you would obviously use your handheld to access the internet) but if not, have a look at this necktie.

Of course its all only possible if the lawn has been properly trimmed every couple of weeks. Now I do think that I have a green thumb, but it lasts all of 15 minutes before I need a break for some lemonade or the absolutely impossible to delay work hits me in the head.

Xbox 360 upgrade gets easier

xboxelite.jpgFor the die-hard fans of the Xbox 360 who were actually considering getting the Elite version, there is good news. Microsoft has decided that these precious few were really their most loyal fans and that the software mammoth needed to do something for them. Since transferring their data from the old Xbox to the Ellite's hard disk was not an easy task, Microsoft is giving away free cables for the first few applicants that would easily move the files from one drive to the other.

In an interview that aired on Tuesday, she told the CNN anchorman, "I have four or five years left on my show, and when I'm done with that contract, I'm done. Beer shows finger to Oil: Homer was right all along

homer_beer.jpgGood ol' Simpson ; and to think that we all mis-understood him. If we all went Homers way and guzzled a few beers every night than the brewery waste water acted upon by the sugar consuming bacteria would be enough to generate plenty of clean energy. No wars for oil either. The microbial fuel cell which is being worked upon in Australia by the University of Queensland has support from the Fosters brewery in Brisbane.

New Nokia phones meant to be shared by a family

Cell phones of course changed all that and the infrastructure costs required to connect these places came down drastically. Now despite having cell phone connectivity, not everyone can afford buying the instruments.

Our gaming consoles are the worst suffering of the lot, with the amount of processing , there sure is a lot of heat generated. And long playing hours dont make it any easier. Door which is a Ping Pong table

door-table-1.jpgNeed I say more? Except that when it does act like a door, its gonna look real weird. Make sure it opens into the play room or something. But it sure is a neat way of saving space in cities where you pay through the nose for each inch of place. It swings open like any standard door, but then rotates forward and back, making a playing surface.

Iridio Mouse, the stickler for security

qritek-iris-mouse.gifFingerprint recognition is now passe. Funny, I never even got my own finger print recognition security device. Things have already progressed to Iris scans which we are told much more secure than the 'traditional' finger print recognition methods. Specific files can be locked down by this mouse and access to them is granted only after the mouse confirms that it really is you , of course, by scanning your iris. Smart asses who think that they can simply swap the mouse for a normal one and access the file are in for a surprise too.

Sounds great, but I dont know if it has features like strike that and add that. Since I doubt the thing is going to have any AI worth mention, those features probably wont be there.

The Barbeque that sings

foreman.jpgBBQ owners always ended up with the harder job. The so called experts had to rough it out on the smoky sweaty BBQ while the others enjoyed a hot meal. I mean, I have done it too and its not all smoke and smell, the job has its nice moments too like getting to meet all the lovely girls. Of course thats unless you have friends like mine who on the pretext of 'I know the chef, let me get you the choiciest bits' take away even that small pleasure. Well, you could always practise your singing skills. The MP3 barbeque or the MP3 grill as its also called; has small speakers (10 watts output) which I hope are heat resistant.

Japanese society, the anti-social society?

more_vegetable_vending.jpgWhile we in the west enjoy reading about the new automated gizmos and vending machines (read the T-shirt vending machine, probably the largest in the world to believe me) ; the sad truth is that the society is becoming anti-social. Or at least thats what Kurosaki san thinks. And Kurosaki san certainly knows about these things, considering that he is the director-general of the Japan Vending Machine Manufacturers Association. And he basically thinks that the astounding success enjoyed by vending machines in recent years is due to this fact.

No matter who fights with whom, its always Hulk Hogan at #1 and Bret Hart Hitman at #2 ; those were by far the best of the lot. It was only later I found that the whole thing was a farce and fixed from the start to the end. Well I was a kid alrite!

iPhone gets the FCC bill of approval

fcc-iphone.jpgWhile only a formality, its something akin to hitting puberty before you could father children. While its bound to happen sooner or later, its a must happen before you can proceed on your mission of populating the earth and spreading your gene. So, while we all knew that the almighty Apple can do no wrong and its iPhone will certainly be approved, it does help to heave a sigh of relief that the final go ahead has been granted.

Vibrating wrist-bands: The BlueQ way

blueq.jpgFirst came the wrist-bands that were to show that you support charity, they became such a fashion statement that every Tom Dick n Harry was wearing them on the streets, even the guys who didnt know that Charity starts with a 'C'. Needless to say, the ones that they wore were cheap imitations and didnt do nothing for the good causes that they were meant to support. At least the Bluetooth wristband does what its supposed to. And if the 'c'harity guys do get their hands on them, then it wont be any better since they would be lacking the required technology.

Starcraft II announced

starcraft2.jpgI had long forgotten this game, but what I do remember about it is the astounding fan following that it had. Most fans had given up hopes of ever seeing a sequel to the popular game, while a steadfast few remained unwavering in their belief that it would come. Thanks Blizzard. Now before I continue with my rants, lets get on to the video and see what Starcraft 2: Hell, its about time is all about.

Motorola Q9: the smartphone

moto-q9-1.jpgBut after seeing and drooling over the iPhone, it doesnt look so smart no more. In fact I only like these bulky creatures when Blackberry releases them. It seems to all fit with everything else when Blackberry makes them, the others feel like cheap imposters. The Motorola Q9 would not win any prizes for its good looks but it would be a good contender for the 'biggest looser' title in terms of bulk of course. The handset itself, the Motorola Q9 is in truth a smart phone in terms of its capabilities.

Sony Ericsson T650

t650.jpg Sony Ericsson at it yet again, I did love candybar ice creams when I was a kid, in fact my favorite one was a strawberry candy with vanilla inside. Now if you havent run off after the ice cream wagon and are still reading then what I was leading upto is that obviously Sony Ericsson guys love candybars much more than I did. Most of their handsets are this form factor, similar to the addiction Samsung had with clamshells a few years back (its now moved on to sliders).

Radiation protecting underwear

antiradiation_underwear.jpgRight then, this was coming. I will admit that I didnt think it would get here so soon. But then what else can you expect, the guys dont like being left behind the gals. If the gals want to protect their private parts from snooping Infrared cameras, than the guys want to protect their sperm producing factories from the ill-effects of modern day gadgetry such as cell phones. And since everyone (laugh on perverts, but its true, its Everyone!) wears underwear, what better way then to have underwear that can stop these radiations from passing through?

Intelligent coffee table, senses your coffee

150_ledcoffeetable.jpgThis is one invention that promises to slow down the sale of coffee table books and become the perfect topic of conversation over coffee. Its an interactive coffee table that senses when you keep down your daily cuppa. It then creates ripples beginning from the place you set down your cup. The ripples slowly spread over the table and then gently dissappear. The 'ripple' effect is created by the presence of LEDs.

Samsung F300 Review (Video)

samsung_f300.jpgRecall the Samsung F300? The same hyped music phone which had Samsung sign on Beyonce for more publicity? I liked the F300 for its unique approach. Unlike the clamshells and sliders that we are so attuned to ; the F300 is the 'sider' phone. Each side stands for something unique. On one side is a large, clear screen with a sweep touch key that makes music control simple, intuitive, and fun. Worried about cell phone radiation? WiFi is 3 times worse

radiation.gifAnd thats not just a rumor, BBC UK actually did a study that found Wi-fi networks in schools can give off three times the height of the signal radiation of phone masts. Considering that radiation affects children more so since their skulls are still developing and that seventy per cent of secondary schools in the UK already have wi-fi and nearly 50% of all primary schools do too, its astounding that no one thought about this so far.

WalMart forces suppliers to go green: Hybrid trucks roll

pete386h.jpgThats right, when you have as much spending / buying power as much as Walmart does, it can muscle its wishes in. And when its for a good cause we are all in to support the David versus the short sighted Goliaths. The environmental campaign that Wal Mart has embarked on , meant that it no longer wishes to use the old polluting trucks. Instead it has decided to switch over to hybrid trucks. Well nearly dead actually, and it may just work with the RAZR - that handset has reinvented the rules of the game once before. The RAZR squared which carries on the RAZR family name into 2007 has a larger brighter 2 inch external display and the slimness is further accentuated by reducing its already petite dimensions by a further 2mm.
