And I aint just makin it up. The State of California is suing the Federal Department of Energy over its reported 'failure' to authorise what the State of California claims will help save 303 billion litres of water a year by 2019. California which has always been at the fore front of environmental conservation has proposed a new standard which required washing machines sold after 2007 to use no more than 8.5 gallons of water per cubic foot of washing machine capacity. And by 2010, this figure would have to be reduced by a further 30%.
However since these are stringent norms, they required to be approved by the Department of Energy which refused to do so claiming that this would have a negative effect on the consumer. However history sides with California on this one, they have sued the DoE, 5 times in the past an won each time. The energy and water efficient washing machines would cost $130 more to purchase but savings in water and energy would equal to $242. 'We shall see them in court' said spokesman for the California Energy Commission.
Go Arnie!
