Dell needs to pull up their socks, before everything blows up, including their impeccable reputation. This is the ninth time that Dell’s laptop batteries exploded into flames and its latest victim a computer network administrator, Douglas Brown, landed in a hospital in Ohio. Suffering from Flaming Laptop Syndrome, Dell's laptops have already burned down a house, set fire to a pickup truck, which not only destroyed the truck but also set off box of ammunition, kept in the gloves department, and there have been other similar cases.
Dell answers all these reports by recalling and replacing millions of lithium-ion batteries -- and their work is done. No show of concern or regret or proper compensation. To top the misery the customer care is not very amiable, as experienced by Brown, the first representative, Cory, was “very nice and professional” but then the call was transferred to another, “who was not.” Brown adds that he asked the next service rep "who was going to pay for the damages to my house and the HAZMAT bill and (she) asked me if I had insurance.”
Now this is preposterous, first your laptop risks a man’s life and almost burns down his house, and then you without any shame shed your responsibility. "I would have thought Dell would have had a better answer then that," Brown said. "After all the fire was caused by their computer."
If it (Dell) wants to add fireworks to its notebooks feature list, it better do that without blowing up something. And dear users, be careful and demand the best, and do not compromise. If they do not deliver the best, be ready to slap their face and take them to the court.
