The world’s second largest PC maker, Dell, has set a goal for itself. You must be wondering, every company sets a goal, so what is the hype all about----Dell has plans to go all carbon neutral before 2008, and it is slated to become the first carbon neutral company in the industry. It seems Dell has already taken steps to achieve its goal---like saving 1.8 million in electricity by switching off the equipment at night when not in use; light bubs were replaced with more efficient designs. It has also asked parts suppliers to include information on their environmental policies.
Dell has also expanded its “Plant a Tree for Me” program. The customers choose to have $2/$6 of a laptop/desktop purchase go towards a fund to plant more trees around the world. Looks like, Dell is making all the right moves to please the environmentalists. However, the carbon neutral move also shows the importance of energy for the computer manufacturers. Whatever might be the case, environment benefits out of it---and no one is complaining about it
