According to me Flip's camcorder is the ultimate solution for capturing my moments of glory (and also possible downfalls) -- but the slim beauty won’t please patrons of real advanced stuff. They want the hardcore camcorder, like the one introduced by Sony -- the “PMW-EX1 HD” Solid State Compact Camcorder. This camcorder offers all the advantages of a tape less workflow. It uses two 16 GB flash memory cards, SxS PRO, to record -- 100 minutes of HD footage at 35Mbps or 140 minutes at 25Mbps -- your moments.

The SX memory card realizes 800Mbps high-speed data transfer, enables non-linear capabilities -- like instant random access and file-based operation. This Sony camcorder features developed 3x 1/2 type Exmor CMOS sensor, pixel count of 1920 x 1080, low light image capture mode, and also has Slow and Quick Motion capability. It has a multiple frame recording feature, such as 50i, 59.94i, 50p, 59.94p and native 25P, 29.97p and 23.98P.

XDCAM EX camcorder package comes with SxS memory card, USB Reader/Writer, a wide-conversion lens, battery, and charger. The PMW-EX1, according to Bill Drummond, Senior product manager, Sony Professional Solutions Europe, "is a truly remarkable camcorder at a very competitive price. This latest addition will encourage a complete non-linear HD workflow within the compact camcorder market.”

The most outstanding feature is XDCAM EX’s interoperability, the compatibility with many NLE companies. The following companies are planning to implement interoperability with XDCAM EX in their products:

• Adobe Systems Incorporated (Adobe Premiere Pro with MainConcept MPEG Pro)
• Apple Inc. (Final Cut Pro Studio)
• Dayang Technology Development Inc. (D3 Edit 3000 Series)
• MainConcept AG (MPEG Pro HD 3.0)
• Matrox Electronic Systems Ltd. (Matrox Axio & Matrox RT.X2)
• MOG Solutions (Toboggan MediaTransfer)
• Newauto Silicon Valley Video Techmology CO.,LTD. (Himaraya A1000/A1200/A1500 series)
• Sobey Digital Technology Co., Ltd. (E7, E2000)
• Sony Creative Software (Vegas Pro 8)
• Thomson (Grass Valley EDIUS Pro & Grass Valley EDIUS Broadcast)

The availability dates and the price tag is still not know, however, whenever it comes -- I am not interested -- but it is surely going to be the prized catch of the holiday season. And according to the company man, it is going to shake the camcorder world.
