The Chinese company, Lenovo, has introduced new PC, especially designed for its country’s farmers. I am not sure what will they do with it in a highly information censored regime and where the thought of freedom no longer thrives. The computer, Tianfu, is powered by AMD processor and comes with Window XP.
Unlike the urban Chinese computers, which features Pinyin (the Romanized writing system), the rural one’s will have a handwriting recognition pad for entering Chinese characters. It will come minus a keyboard and mouse, as most of the farmers are not educated enough to understand the Pinyin system.
Tianfu has a price tag of $300. We can only hope that the new PC leads to empowerment of farmers in China.
