Microsoft which made fools of all of us by claiming that Vista is better than Vista is onto us again. This time they have decided to anticipated Windows Mobile 6.1 on a day traditionally reserved for pranks and false alarms. Lets just hope that this one meets a better response then their other much hyped operating systems.

Microsoft certainly needs it to work if Windows smart phones are going to continue to offer stiff competition to Symbian and of course, the Apple iPhone. Primary improvements over version 6 include a much better browser (Internet Explorer with added functionality) and a zooming feature (there that should take care of the iPhone). The windows threaded SMS feature which has been much requested has been integrated in as well.

The user interface has been polished and looks a lot like Windows Vista with the fonts et. al ; and there is a Wi-Fi indicator which was absent in previous versions. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is the next much anticipated phone that will be running Windows Mobile.
