Handmade Scanner from Optical Mouse

If you are one of the few thats still holding out against buying a scanner (or if your printer didnt come with a scanner already) then here is a cheap an dinexpensive way to make your own. You can use an optical mouse to make your own scanner. Not very surprising since most of us know that optical mice have a little camera inside of them which helps them to detect motion.



Its a tiny 18x18 camera so dont ask me how good the scanner is going to work but HacknMod have a weekend project for you if it sounds interesting enough.

Seen here is an image of how the scanned document looks like. Pretty easy to guess that its going to be completely useless, but would get you into the geek club all the same.
