I mean we all know how popular the iPhone is getting, but an all time high which would make the iPhone the most popular handset ever? I dont think so. But thats exactly what Flickrs data is to be believed. Since Flickr allows users to upload pictures from the mobile devices, they can gauge which phone is used to make the most uploads. You guessed it - its the iPhone.
About this graph (from Flickr)
This graph shows the number of Flickr members who have uploaded at least one photo or video with a particular camera on a given day over the last year.
This graph is normalized, which is a fancy way of saying that they automatically correct for the fact that more people join Flickr each day: the graph moving up or down indicates a change in the camera's popularity relative to all other cameras used by Flickr members.
The graph is only accurate to the extent that we can automatically detect the camera used to take the photo or shoot the video (about 2/3rds of the time). That is not usually possible with cameraphones, therefore they are under-represented.
Note that what FlickR needs to detect the device is EXIF data which the camera embeds into the image. Several cell phones dont do that so they are not represented at all. The iPhone does so it gets a boost. But comparing it with others that do the same, its a pretty impressive lead for a phone less then a year old.
