Solar Cell Leaves

Posted by Funkyguy on May 28, 2008 3:18 PM

The solar cell leaves demonstrate how scientists have been able to create cells which are exceptionally thin yet efficient enough for use. Its important since in the future most of the materials would probably include some sort of solar cells to reduce their dependency on the grid.

Architectural materials including walls and windows, clothing materials, livingware, leisure goods, outdoor products and toys are where such cells would find their applications.

The organic thin-film solar cell consists of a plastic substrate, phthalocyanine layer, fullerene layer and so forth. And eight 7.5cm2 solar cells connected in series constitute about 60cm2 solar cell module. If these cells are made highly efficient then it would be not just house owners but even those living in small apartments who could get a few of these trees for their windows and save up on power for basic usage such as recharging phones and batteries.
