No, its not going to be in the next generation of the iPhone. But in a clear indication just how far Apple is ready to go to challenge the limits of cell phone technology as we know it, the company has filed papers for using solar cells on cell phones. This would mean no more trouble with batteries about to run out. All it would need is a good tan and you could have a couple of hours more of standby time.

I am not sure how effective its going to be, think about it for a second. How long do you spend in the sun on a normal working day? Its usually home to car to office and the reverse order while returning. You could leave your handset near a window or somewhere where it could absorb a few rays but I dont think its a very good idea.
The tech though may even be helpful to top up under artificial lighting since all thats actually required is some sort of bright light. If the company uses a solar cell behind its display then all you would need to do is keep the handset on your desk allowing it to absorb light. It would also mean that the surface area that a solar cell requires could be used simultaneously by the display. A future generation of the iPhone and iPod both seem good candidates for this technology.
