But the catch, always the catch is that they will do so by 2010. And thats hoping by 2010, it could very well be a couple of years more if they falter on some of the technologies that shall be needed to reach there. Somehow, I dont think so. Volkswagen says that this car shall have a 1 liter engine and the body shall be made of light weight plastic and magnesium to ensure maximum efficiency. The car shall have a top speed of only 74 mph.

Somehow I would love to see Indias Tata having the last laugh now. Widely ridiculed for their Nano (which is to hit the roads soon) , it works on similar concepts of having a light weight small car with a alow top speed and an extremely small engine to increase efficiency and keep costs very low.
