Power hungry Japan which prides itself on being at the cutting edge of technology is already well on its way to becoming more greener then ever before. While the Japanese love their gadgets which explains the high energy usage for such a small island nation, they havent always been environmentally friendly about it.

But for a nation which has always had scarcity of resources owing to its size, they have been the most judicious in using renewable sources of energy. For whatever reason that it may be, truth remains that with two mega solar power generation plants are to be built in Sakai (near Osaka) by 2010, the solar facilities will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 10,000 tons yearly.
One facility will have an output of 10,000 kW, while the second plant is planned to produce 28,000 kW. The complex will be one of the largest of its kind in the world. Factories operating in Sakai such as Sharp will be able to use power from the plants. The city hopes to be one of Japans leading green cities with this initiative.
