Mercedes is working aggresively to reduce the oil pain to consumers by making sure that cars that are easy to run as well as afford are out there ready to be picked up asap. And they have even given us a proper deadline instead of simply speculating in the near future like others.

Professor Dr Herbert Kohler, responsible for Mercedes advanced engineering, believes that by 2015 motorists will have switched almost completely to alternative fuel cars, certainly in cities, to eliminate the need for petrol and diesel in urban areas. Engines could be using hydrogen, electricity or a combination of the two.

What most people do not realise is how important finding a viable alternative is. Its not just to spare you dollars at the pump, but also the groceries (which were trucked down to your nearest store) and thus every other goods and services till it results in some stupendous inflation figures. Mercedes is to invest 7 billion pounds by 2014 to ensure that they do adhere to this deadline.

With oil prices so high, oil companies cant help but allow alternates to come up rapidly. After all, how many of us would be happy to just watch Who killed the Electric car? in our bedrooms by 2014. I am already prepared to pick up the proverbial flame to set afire this big ugly oil monster. As I am sure most of you my fellow global citizens are too if we just had a viable alternative.
