While Ericsson has certainly ceased to be a phone company after the merger of Sony and Ericssons cell phone arms, Sony seem to be having second thoughts about their cellphone arm. What else can explain their reluctance to give over the Playstation tag to SonyEricsson for making into a phone which would definitely enjoy a substantial interest level right from the day of announcement.

However unlike the Walkman tag which has helped SonyEricsson launch several handsets and achieve good sales as well , Sony isnt quite as happy to let go of the Playstation name.
The Playstation phone is now almost a certainty with December 2009 (Christmas) expected to be the release date. But one wonders what the handsets branding is going to be if not SonyEricsson. After all it would be foolworthy to not use the divisions ample experience in making cell phones even if we grant that the game playing ability of the handset shall be much better than anything else on the market.
Nokia have tried and failed, with the N-Gage never really catching the peoples fancy. We can only hope that Sony can do better.
And while we are still there, lets also hope Nintendo doesnt jump onto the bandwagon. I wouldnt give the DS much scope if it looks to getting integrated into a cell phone.
