A diesel engine which beats King Midas in its miserliness and hybrid technology to go along with it mean that the latest VW Golf concept makes the Toyota Hybrid look like a fool. the Twin Drive can be run in electric-only mode for a range of up to 30 miles using an 82 HP electric motor.

Theres also the 2.0-liter turbo-diesel that makes 122 HP which can take over once the batteries have been drained. The two combined are the reason why they call it the Twin Drive concept.

However to be fair to the Prius, its already on the roads whereas the VW Golf Hybrid will be doing advanced testing in 2010 along with the German government.
