Unlike 3D images that can be viewed on TVs or computers, Japanese scientists are now working on a technology that allows people to hold 3D image in their hands. Its being called as the gCubik and is currently in prototype stage.

Suppose you have a picture of your girlfriend smiling on your desk. She could be smiling as a 3D image in a cube. Grandparents could use the device -- which comes in a 10 centimetre (3.9 inches) cube -- to see a 3D image of their grandchild living far away, while business people could view a prototype product from afar and school teachers could use it in science classes.
The device when it is perfected will allow the user to view the image from all 6 sides of the cube. The inventors also hope to make it cordless and wirefree by the time they completely finalise the device. Giving sound to the cube hasnt been ruled out either. It does seem straight out of a Arthur Clarke fiction story but its definitely a real project thats slated to be completed in the next couple of years.
