The Zune may have dropped completely out of the spot light but a quick run to the supermarket shows that they are still stocking it all the same. Rumours are now focussing on whether Microsoft will take the Zune to the next step - the Zune Phone. Its not improbable considering that the Zune was a competitor to the iPod which has now evolved into the iPhone.

Besides , Microsoft already has a successful mobile phone operating system meaning that they only need to develop the hardware.

According to rumours, the Zune phone will be based on a specialized variant of Windows Mobile 7 and key functionality will be centered around Windows Live Services. The Zune phone like the iPhone would be based on touch screen type controls. Microsoft also has the necessary contacts with the cell phone industry and mobile carriers due to its long term experience with the Windows Mobile OS.

Perhaps its jst what the doctor ordered to revitalise the Zune which has never really picked up. Also picked up on the street was the news that the Zune guy (the biggest fan of the Zune ever) has decided that he has had enough and is removing all his tattoos and giving up on the music player.
