The Sony VAIO FW shall have the honour of being the first laptop in history to be made especially for viewing Blu-Ray movies. While laptops with Blu-Ray players have already been available since some time, the VAIO FW with its extra-wide LCD is constructed with a 16:9 aspect ratio, which is the standard used while shooting HD movies. Sonys patented XBRITE-HiColour LCD technology is also available on select models allowing viewers to get sharper pictures.

Intel Centrino 2 technology will ensure that power is never a problem for the VAIO user. The Vaio Media software, which is a DLNA-enabled media sharing application enables users to wirelessly stream content stored on PC throughout their home network.
External memory support includes multiple ports and jacks including Memory Stick media/SD card slot, three USB ports, an i.Link Ieee-1394 port, microphone and headphone jack, and a 34mm ExpressCard slot.
With an Energy Star rating of 4.0 , the standard version of the Sony Vaio FW notebook is expected to retail at around $1,000, while the premium edition may cost in the region of $1,750.
