If being on the absolutely cutting edge of technology is an absolute must-do with you, then rush out. The worlds first OLED TV has just gone on sale. Available from Sony for some time now, Hammacher is making an effort to push sales by making sure its affordable. Thats if a couple of grand means affordable to you.

They are sticking with the price tag of USD $2500 , but given that OLEDs are much better than the traditional LCDs and Plasmas (CRTs? Get a life dude) they do seem to be worth the price.
The onyl stumbling block if you do get over the cost is that its too small to be true. The tech is still in the nascent stage and for that price all you get is a 11 inch screen providing 960 x 540 native resolution, along with Dolby surround sound.
LED displays are produced not by the bulky, inefficient backlighting found in LCD or plasma televisions, but by carbon-based materials deposited on film that shine brilliantly when an electric current passes through them. OLED pixels express true-to-life color because electric currents selectively stimulate relevant pixel patterns, producing highly saturated individual colors that combine to form a broad color spectrum similar to the natural worlds.
To render black colors, pixels turn off, resulting in complete darkness and, combined with the enhanced purity of the primary color matrix (red, green, and blue), produces a contrast ratio of 1,000,000 to 1--the highest available and 100 times greater than the industry average.
While typical LCDs have a response time between 4 and 8 milliseconds, this superior unit redraws pictures in less than 0.01 milliseconds for rapid, seamless reproduction of fast moving images, ideal when watching sporting events and action movies.
