Star Wars type of laser fights may be sometime in the future but that hasnt stopped the US Air Force from developing defences for these hypothetical weapons.
A new Air Force request for proposals asks researchers to come up with ways to find retrofittable laser protection for weapons. In tests, U.S. and Israeli ray guns have shown the ability to melt holes in all kinds of munitions. Several American defense contractors are working to translate those results into battlefield tools.
The air force some kind of spray to be developed which would prevent the lasers from working as quickly as they can - basically a sort of delay which would give time for the missile or plane to get a warning and try to evade the threat.
