A nice time to upgrade your computers and laptops - completely is when a major standard changes. Something like the USB standard. A friend of mine still struggles along with USB 1.1 - and how he does it is something that I simply cannot understand. Consider the following comparison.

The full speed data transfer allowed by a USB 1.1 is something like 187.5 KB/second. This is in comparison to 1.5 MB/second for USB 2.0. However even 2.0 has been showing its age recently with lots of people getting portable hard drives and us humans being forced to wait for a precious few minutes with nothing to do than wait for the data to transfer. The USB 3.0 promises to bring us up to date with a full speed potential of 60 MB / second. Go Speed Racer Go , anyone?
Of course you would have to upgrade your portable HDD too along with the computer to take full advantage of it, but whats the cost when you can really cruise at 60 Mbps.
