2008 Olympics Water Cube Phone
September 2, 2008

The Chinese still havent gotten over the fact that the Olympics are over. Well they had a reason to be proud of it. Not only were they terrific hosts , but their teams also performed amazingly well. Most of you would have no trouble recalling the Water cube building as the place where Michael Phelps broke the mother of all records. Its actually the Beijing National Aquatics Center and is a wonder in itself. However I am here to tell you about the Water Cube inspired cell phone from China.

Taking the structure of soap bubbles as inspiration (and mimicking natures way of filling 3-d space most efficiently), PTW Architects and Arup gave the $200 million Cube an elegant, light-weight design: a rectangular box covered in iridescent bubble wrap. Its designed so well that its shaved off upto 30 percent of energy costs that would otherwise be incurred.

Coming back to the cell phone, for once its not a copy of any other handset and can be proudly said to be inspired from something thats totally Chinese. Its going to be available in a choice of 6 different colors and supposedly has a 3D interface. Its got bluetooth, TV as well as tr-band GSM functionality.
