If you thought that the Wii had leap-frogged over the current generation of video games which were really reaching their end anyway with only remote controlled inputs, wait till you see the cocoon. Its not a new idea per se, its been around for a long time as science fiction buffs will attest to. But this is probably the first time that someone has attempted to design one such system using current technologies and not just some fictional super-tech.
coming back to the cocoon, its been designed by NAU and its a VR system which literally has you stepping into a different world. Kind of like the holo-deck on the Enterprise (which Trekkies have long dreamt about). Once you step in, you will be completely immersed thanks to surround sound technology , graphics as well as internet connectivity. Here are a few images specualting just how its going to be done.
Well, there is one part that NAU hasnt looked into. While it may be possible with current tech, its not going to be cheap. So if you are planning on getting one of these - start saving immediately.
