Googles Android system is being written off by the industry even before it gets a chance to prove itself. Reasons for this are being cited as the apparent lack of control that Google shall have over the final product courtesy of it being open source. Unlike Apple whose super control over anything and everything that has to do with their precious iPhone that is raising heckles ; this one is the complete opposite.

While many, yours truly included, have hoped that a more democratic regime such as Googles would encourage developers to share and grow together, thats not what the critics think. They argue that the most succesful model in the industry today is one where the hardware and software comes from the same vendor (read - Apple and RIM) ; not what Google is banking on.
However the Windows Mobile OS, which has been around for some time now does exactly that and is slowly but surely gaining in popularity. Even if thats only because it can do most of everything that your desktop can, its still something that Google can take into account. Unfortunately, it took Microsoft a long way in getting here and the Windows OS on the cell phone is in no way the rage when it comes to consumers making their choice.
More important, according to some critics, has been Googles lack of clear consumer focus, in marked contrast to Apple, whose iPhone was designed and marketed to meet very specific needs.
However if anyone knows of fighting against the odds, then its certainly Google. Personally, my bets still on them , after all, why support a draconian regime of Steve Jobs when Google promises to keep everything open source? And if the Android despite its bugs (but impressive for a 1.0 version) is anything to go by, its going to put up a firm fight to the iPhone.
