Matsushita Electronics in Japan, which shall change its name to Panasonic on October 1 said that it is planning to launch the worlds smallest and lightest digital SLR camera. the camera is especially targetting females who wanted the benefits of a SLR without the weight of traditional SLRs.

Traditionally SLR cameras are known to be bulky and heavy. The new model - DMC-G1 weighs only 385 grams. Thats slightly more than a can of beer. The new machine will go on sale in Japan on October 31. Matsushita it expected a package of the camera body and a lens unit to sell for 90,000 yen ($839.5).
Overseas launches are scheduled for late October and early November.
