Murata Seiko-chan : The Bicycling Robotic Wonder

Posted by Funkyguy on September 30, 2008 4:34 PM

So thats how hot-dog stands in the future will be operating. I always used to wonder who could take the hot-dog vendors place and now I know. From appearances, I can also make out that Seiko chan is a stickler for neatness and hygiene ; after all his fabulous white color just wouldnt be able to tolerate any mustard / ketchup spots for long.

The 50-centimeter (20 in) tall, 5-kilogram (11 lb) Seiko-chan features a pair of gyro sensors that detect her posture angle. A single wheel moves the robot forward and back, and a rotating flywheel in the chest helps turn the unicycle left and right and maintain balance. In addition to ultrasonic sensors that detect and measure the distance to potential obstacles, Seiko-chan is equipped with built-in Bluetooth capabilities and an embedded camera that transmits live video.
