Swype : The T9 dictionarys progeny?

Posted by Funkyguy on September 14, 2008 2:50 PM

QWERTY wasnt the end of the world as far as tech -innovation went. Sure there was the touch screens which stopped any further development on the predictive text input front, but its still a hassle to type out the full words for a SMS. Text lingo may have shortened the words, but not everyone seems to have a grasp on what exactly gr8 and great have in common.

The inventor of T9 has now come up with a new technology - Swype. To input, all you need to do is swipe your hand across the keyboard roughly joining the alphabets which would create the word. Let the following video do the explaining.

Personally, I dont think its going to speed up things any. Id rather much prefer to use SMS lingo. Also, this technology restricts itself to devices with touch screens so thats a definite short coming. They do promise that you dont need to be extremely accurate since the AI will be smart enough to guess the word you want.
