Car Dashboards of the Future

Posted by Funkyguy on October 7, 2008 1:55 PM

We always tell you all about concept cars and some fabulous technology that once again promises to end our dependence on oil. Lets forget all that for a moment and concentrate on how cars in the near future will look from the inside. Thats right ; that dashboard which used to be similar in all cars more or less is going for drastic changes - here is what you can expect.

Saab. I love the white color, but its clear they could have done better. After all , its the same thing that we have been seeing all along ; at least put in a sporty steering.

Now thats what I am talking about. No matter that the displays and instrumentation wont make any sense to the driver for the first 6 months ; it looks good and thus gets our vote. Its got reconfigurable optical feedback keyboard and lit-from-underneath instruments on the dash - this means that the keyboard pops up when needed much like the other panels. Awesome or what?

GTby Citroen - a fantasy car says Jalopnik and we couldnt have put it better. A heads-up display means that those who are at home in Flight Simulators will probably be plonking down their deposit monies before Citroen decides to bring it to production.

c4.jpg

Audi A1. Simple yet elegant. White leather with brushed aluminium. Audi outdid their own selves with this one. They have their fingers on the pulse of fashion and technology ; this one is easily the best of the lot.

c5.jpg

Citroen. I cant seem to pull myself away from the garish red color and am still trying to make out what it is exactly. If I move on , Ill get to describing the rest ; in the meanwhile , decide for yourselves.

c6.jpg

Mazda Kiyora. Its what Wonder Woman would use. At least it explains the flashes of lightning that are running rampant on the dashboard. Or is it because the car can reach Warp speeds?

c7.jpg

If the Peugeot came from Star Wars, then this one is definitely from Star Trek. A low resolution unfinished one at that. Its for the Nissan Nuvu , and a one year old with photoshop skills could have done a better job. The car itself is excellent , but we would really like some real pictures before taking a call on it.

c8.jpg

Mercedes Concept Fascination - nothing futuristic , its just a mish mash of leather wood and metal. Wood finish ? in 2008 ? Seriously Mercedes what were you thinking?

c9.jpg

Peugeot. Its clear what happened here. Since the car needed to be displayed immediately, they pulled off a few space ship designers of the Star Wars era and put them to work. If nothing else, the steering is sure to make you feel that the car can truly fly.

c10.jpg

Renault ZE. If you can tear yourselves away from the green tinge which is supposed to unconsciously whisper the words eco-friendly to you, you notice that they do make use of a lot of tech in this little car including two little displays ; one of which we assume is for the nagging spouse who cant wait to snap Are we lost every now and then.

The Tang Hua XY08 Chika. Not really great, but its a nice steering wheel.

The Honda Insight , simple yet futuristic. I m lovin it.
