Electromagnetic Scanners can play Wireless Key loggers
October 24, 2008

Apparently making sure that you use your own computer for writing / editing sensitive documents or doing bank transfers so as to ensure that there are no key loggers which can record this activity is no longer going to be enough. Scientists have proved that using electromagnetic scanners they are able to pick up on the key strokes that you make on your keyboard.

And if you thought that you already had an idea that this would happen and stuck to wired keyboards so as to prevent that , chew on this , it works on wireless as well as wired keyboards. The eavesdropping is possible upto a radious of 65 feet from the keyboard. Those living in apartment should be very wary.

Part 1:

The researchers devised four separate methods for EM eavesdropping, which will be detailed in specifics in a paper to be released after peer review. The method for intercepting signals involves detecting the full spectrum of electromagnetic radiation emitted by a keyboard (which are unshielded to keep costs and form factors down), and analyzing the specific change in signal over a variety of wavelengths for each key press.
