The Renault ZE is setting its aims extremely high. Its hoping to be the official transport for the 2012 Olympics, which as we know shall be held in the city of London. The car itself does have what it takes and its obviously an electric car. It recharges itself (partially) with the aid of solar panels. Its also got heat reflective paint , which may sound counter productive from the solar panel p-o-v , but it makes sense since users would be less likely to turn on the air conditioning.

A 94bhp electric motor powers the car and gives the user 226 Nm of torque. The car isnt designed to be a plug-in either ; it actually works on that age old concept of simply swapping your horses as they get tired at designated check points. You simply buy the battery pack on a monthly contract, and swap flat cells for fully charged ones at designated stations.
The system apparently works in Israel and Renault is hard at work putting in the infrastructure in Europe. The official car of the Olympics is used inside the olympics village and is an achievement that every car maker would hope to achieve.
