It had something to do with the leap year psyche that simply couldnt be processed by the Zunes. The Zune devices showed error messages when users attempted to switch them on.
The problem was expected to be solved automatically once the internal clocks ticked over onto January 1. However its not going to be a simple matter of turning them on. The batteries must get completely drained before the device can be restarted and expected to work.
Microsoft has just announced that the Zune bug has now been fixed. The problem was restricted to the 30 GB models which were released in 2006.
