Mobile OS UIQ downs the shutters

Posted by Yash on January 6, 2009 1:07 PM

One of my favorite operating systems at a time (given that it gave close competition to the Series 60 OS , dominant a couple of years back) and also given that I have a habit of cheering for the under-dog ; its sad to know that UIQ is being put to rest. The mobile platform which powered phones such as the SonyEricsson P910 is bankrupt.

UIQ is currently owned jointly by Sony Ericsson and Motorola , both struggling with sales themselves. UIQ has now filed for bankruptcy. With Symbian having gone open source, and newer systems such as Android from google which were both free and opensource ; there was precious little that UIQ had to offer. Already employees have been warned about being laid off.
