Or thats what Sharp would have us believe. Sharp CEO mentioned that technologies such as OLED keep coming up but they are putting all their bets on LCDs for the present as well as the future.
It could be that companies such as Sharp and Samsung have to invest a lot of time and resources into setting up a manufacturing plant. Shifting technologies so drastically such as from LCD to OLED would require a complete overhaul, certainly not something that they would look forward to in such economic times. Technology wise, OLED does have some significant benefits over LCDs but as was the case with LCDs till a few years back, its still not beneficial for manufacturers to start investing in these TVs big time.
Till such day comes when OLEDs are made cheaply, hang on to LCDs. But if you cant a few companies such as Sony do manufacture them , but dont expect anything even close to the options that you would get if you went in for a LCD.
Benefits of OLEDs include greater colors, higher refresh rates, lower energy consumption and a lot more faster making watching TV much more realistic.
