Upgrading your First-Gen iPod into the latest one
January 3, 2009

Older iPods - as old as the first generation ones now seem something straight out of a history book. Bulky and bulgy , these are definitely nothing even remotely similar to what Apples designers are bringing out these days. However for green geeks , throwing them away makes no sense at all. So they continue to occupy a small space in your universe, being of no use at all.

Heres where our manual for upgrading your vintage iPod comes in. A cheap 5$ flash card adapter will have your iPods storage upto 32 GB (which costs 60$). A replacement battery worth just 6$ helps to bring back the iPod to life as well. Replacing the firmware for Rockbox (an open source replacement that provides a new UI, OGG and FLAC support, gapless playback, a 5 band parametric EQ, high-resolution volume control and advanced on-the-go playlist creation) and your iPod is ready to go.

Total cost comes to around 75$ and the feeling that you just saved a little bit of the planet is of course invaluable. Hit the source for more info.
