Its the time when the worlds first barriers are broken again and again - its time for the CES. Blaupunkt along with miRoamer have announced the worlds first internet car radio allowing drivers to access the limitless source of music - the internet, while on the road.
miRoamer also offers the ability to browse genres or stations and customize preferences, providers and search options online at miRoamer.com. The Internet portal also allows users to add media that is not currently offered on miRoamer, by simply providing the URL and adding it to their favorites.
The world's first Internet car radio by Blaupunkt will enable drivers to tune into miRoamer's tens of thousands of radio stations and really feel like they're there. Users' favorite Internet radio stations can be easily chosen via clearly arranged information on a large screen display, enriched by state-of-the art performance in terms of car multimedia and consumer electronics connectivity.
"It will have everything you'd expect to find in a medium- to high-end radio -- AM/FM, CD, MP3 with the added ingredient of Internet radio," said the spokesman.
A 3G mobile phone with a data plan is needed to connect the radio to the Internet and the company estimates the average user would consume around two gigabytes of data a month.
It uses Bluetooth connectivity to connect to a cellphone and then the cellphone connects to a cellular network. The mobile is purely used to connect to the Internet. Cost 399$ USD.
Depending on how much you end up driving, this may sound like an excellent investment. Though if you have a short commute, burning up a MP3 CD still sounds like the way to go.
