Well they used to. For Germany. Post World War II just to be clear. But since their cars were too expensive (typically Porsche) the German government never approved them for use. Porsche even tried to sell them to other NATO countries but it never worked out. Frustrated , they took their cars to the general public. They were named as Jagdwagen , also Hunting Car to appeal to the hunters.

But the catch, always the catch is that they will do so by 2010. And thats hoping by 2010, it could very well be a couple of years more if they falter on some of the technologies that shall be needed to reach there. Somehow, I dont think so. Volkswagen says that this car shall have a 1 liter engine and the body shall be made of light weight plastic and magnesium to ensure maximum efficiency. The car shall have a top speed of only 74 mph.

I ran a story about the revolving license plates which drew in more than a passing interest from drivers hounded by speed cams. While available in China, such devices are impossible to find in the west. However I am featuring a product here that works as well if not better.

Heres the worlds fastest street car which even makes the Bugatti Veyron supercar eat dust. This Swiss supercar has just inherited the mantle of being the fastest on the streets thanks to Weber Sports. She costs just a little bit over USD 1.5 million dollars. They call her the faster one. There are no door handles on the Faster One - this helps in reducing wind drag rather there are buttons to open the doors.

Even the windscreen wiper gets in on the aerodynamics, sitting vertically against the windshield at rest to present the smallest possible profile.

And it gives a stunning one horse power of output along with some dung. The intake is purely bio-dependent fuels and this includes grass, maize and corn. I must mention that the engine does have a soft corner for oats. Having said that, its a lovely way to catch attention in these days of extremely high fuel prices. Perhaps companies out for some advertising should get one of these.
